My husband and I have had a remarkable life, one that I am very grateful for. We both retired about a month ago and moved to the beautiful country of Costa Rica. My husband is 48 and I am 51. We are lucky, but we also planned how we would live this dream for the last 20 years.
I was, and still am, terrified at times! I question every day if it will all be okay, or if it could fall apart. But...I am a full believer in the power of positive energy. What you put out into this universe is what you get back! We worked hard to get here, but we also used those powers to provide us this amazing life.
Many books and experts call this manifestation or the law of attraction and I will recommend some great reads that changed my life in a future post.
Many people have asked us how we made it happen. My thoughts, my advice and how YOU can live your dream life are below. I am not an expert, nor do I claim to be, but my gift to you is to share what worked for me.
We have a wonderful family that includes me, my husband, our dog, our cat, great siblings, great parents, and those friends that we have chosen to call family. They have all been part of this amazing journey that we get to call our best life. They have been instrumental in helping us to realize and fulfill our dreams. It's important to have these people in your life. The one's that say "go for it"! Find YOUR people. Don't let the nay sayers bring you down; ever!
We truly dreamed our life so that we could live our dream! - We had vast energy that was charged by our goal. That energy drives us to find ways to make it happen. We saved money, we talked about what it would look like when, not if, we lived in our dream location. We traveled there often and made sure that the energy was still drawing us. I made vision boards on Pinterest and at home.
I made sacrifices. I worked, a lot. Sometimes I was not as happy or fulfilled as I would have liked. I don't recommend this. Don't sacrifice your NOW for your future. I truly believe that you have to plan to live your dreams and you must take thoughtful actions to get there, but be happy doing it. I was, for the most part, but there were many times I missed what was right in front of me to get to the end game. Stay present and appreciate the place you are now. The present is a gift. Don't miss it. Just continue to dream.
Find YOUR dream! YOUR place! On my first trip to Costa Rica, my husbands biggest fear came true. He is a surfer and the rainy season tends to have the best surf. He worried that it would rain and I would hate it. I am a sun and fun girl. It rained 18 inches in 5 days and I fell in love! I remember the moment when my heart screamed at me. You belong here! It was a spirited energy like I had never felt before. This was MY place, MY home, where MY spirit energy lives. My challenge to you is to find yours.
Take some time with yourself, meditate on it, visualize it, feel where you are when the deep breathes release and you feel free. It may be where your home is today, it may be the ocean, it may be the mountains, it may be the jungle, it can be anywhere or anything that makes you feel full and complete. Find that place and live YOUR dreams!

Thanks Ted,
Great to hear from you! I am looking forward to hearing how your transition goes. Please keep me posted. Always remember, it's a journey, and it can be very challenging and sometimes pretty stressful. Let me know if I can help in any way!

Hi Bethany,
Wow!! Congrats on achieving your dream. We as well decided to retire in Feb of this year. I have to say we talked about it for a while but never set a real date. Your announcement that you were taking the jump gave us the confidence that we could make it happen. We have traveled to various places to find where we could call home during retirement, but we never found that perfect place. So we have decided to start our journey in St. Croix and see how it goes. Thank you for the inspiration and cheers to your adventures ahead.
